Cultural facts about Italy

4th July 1957 – The “Cinquino” Goes on Sale!

FIAT presents the “super utilitarian” Nuova 500 to the public.

The “500” was the first car to measure less than 3 meters and can be considered the first city car in  history!  The “500” cost 490,000 lire in 1957 equal to 13 months of the average labourer’s salary (that would be approximately 6,000 Euro in today’s money).

In 2007, the 50th anniversary of the 500’s launch, FIAT launched the new Fiat 500, stylistically inspired by the 500 but considerably heavier and larger.
